Day 2 — How Conditioning Shapes Adult Behavior

Children adapt to survive. They do not question caregivers, they adjust themselves instead.

This creates conditioning, which later shows up as:

  • People-pleasing

  • Avoidance

  • Hyper-independence

  • Fear of conflict

  • Over-explaining

Your nervous system learned rules like:

  • “If I express my needs, I’ll be rejected.”

  • “If I stay small, I’ll be safe.”

These rules were once protective. They may now be limiting.

Healing is not about blaming caregivers — it’s about updating outdated survival strategies.

Gentle Practice

Notice one automatic reaction today. Do not change it. Simply observe it.

Journaling Prompts

  • What behavior do I repeat even when it doesn’t serve me?

  • What did this behavior once protect me from?

  • What might a safer option look like now?
