Mini Workshop: Meeting Your Inner Child Through Guided Visualization

Return to Innocence: A Guided Journey to Your Inner Child

There’s a part of you that still believes in magic, still feels everything with wonder, and still longs to play. That part is your inner child—and connecting with them can be a powerful tool for healing and rediscovering your joy.

In the spirit of August’s theme of creativity and play, here’s a gentle guided visualization to help you meet your inner child. This practice can be done at your own pace, in the quiet comfort of your home.

How to Begin

Find a quiet place where you feel safe and relaxed. You may wish to light a candle, wrap yourself in a blanket, or play soft music. Sit or lie down comfortably. Close your eyes and take a few slow, deep breaths.

With each inhale, imagine drawing in peace. With each exhale, imagine releasing tension. Let your breath settle into a natural rhythm.

The Visualization

Imagine yourself walking down a soft path in nature—this could be a forest trail, a warm beach, a blooming garden, or a quiet meadow. Feel the earth beneath your feet. Hear the gentle sounds around you—wind, birdsong, waves.

In the distance, you begin to notice a child. They look familiar. As you move closer, you recognize them—it’s you.

Your inner child may be sitting, playing, or waiting. Notice how they look, what they’re wearing, and the energy they carry. Sit beside them. Let them know you’re here.

You may want to speak to them softly in your mind. Say:

  • “I see you.”

  • “You are so loved.”

  • “You never had to be perfect.”

Spend as long as you like with this part of you. If they want to show you something or speak to you, listen with an open heart. If they want to be hugged or simply witnessed, offer your presence.

When you feel ready, gently say goodbye, knowing you can return to this place and to them anytime you wish.

Begin to return to your body. Wiggle your fingers and toes. Take a deep breath in, and exhale slowly. Open your eyes.

Reflection Prompts:

  • What did my inner child show me or say?

  • What do they need from me right now?

  • How can I bring more play and softness into my daily life?

This practice is one you can return to again and again, especially when life feels heavy or serious. Your inner child is always there—ready to remind you of the beauty in laughter, imagination, and being exactly who you are.
